He officially goes by the name of Tenzin Gyatso, which is the name under which he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.

Following a 1964 pilgrimage to Mecca, Malcolm X converted to orthodox Islam, took the name "El-Shabazz Hajj Malik Shabazz" until his death once he converted to "orthodox" Islam, and broke with the Black Muslims who purportedly assassinated him in Harlem in 1965.

Shimon Peres Shimon Persky
Prime Minister of Israel twice from 1984-1986 and then again in 1995 after the assasination of then Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Shimon Peres changed his name after the Israel war of independence when a whole group of leaders replaced their legal names by their underground code names. ("peres", by the way, means "vulture").
Among them were also former foreign minister Yigal Alon (born Pikovich) and former Chief of Staff and noted archeologist Yigael Yadin (born Sukeinik).
